Due to the pressures of home life, Val and his sister were accepted accepted into the very elite Imperial Boarding College on Corulag. It was during this long time at the school that Val discovered natural talent for trouble and speed. Even so, Val graduated with honors, and became a shuttle pilot for Corporate Sector Authority. He applied several times to the Imperial Academy, but each time was rejected due to questionable political affiliations. When the Empire placed Ralltiir under martial law due to Rebel insurrection, Val's father was lead away by Stormtroopers, never to be seen again. It was this that pushed Val over the edge. As a result, Val joined the resistance movement on Raltiir, as a fighter pilot. During the uprising, the Rebel Alliance contacted the resistance movement, using Talon Squadron (another Squadron attached to Rebel Alliance HQ). During this meeting, Val fell in love with one of the rebel pilots named Juanita Saxena. After a few weeks, Talon Squadron (with the help of Val) helps evacuate the entire resistance movement. During the evacuation, Val and his sister are separated. Val soon after joins the rebellion, and the members of Talon Squadron, thinking that he had lost everything to the Empire. On a mission to a small industrial planet, Val found that money which was deposited in an hidden account, which he was hoping to find a nice quiet spot of the galaxy with and settle down with Juanita, was gone. He could only think of the Empire. A few months later, Val was piloting a ship enroot to a supplies gathering mission on Wisirra III (an Imperial Outpost), Val and a few of the members of Talon Squadron, stopped over at Kween Space Station to rest and recuperate. During this time, Val received a message to meet a woman in a Hotel restaurant. Being curious, Val took this mysterious woman up on the invitation. It was not until he reached the hotel, and spoke with the woman that he realized that it was his sister. She told him that she thought he was dead as well, and bought the restaurant with all the family's remaining fortune before the Imperials got their hands on it. Val was stunned. She told him that she had always wanted to own a restaurant, but was worried the family wouldn't approve. Still stunned, Val asked for her to join him. She stated that she could not, but said that if he needed anything to just ask. Val then left Kween Space Station and travelled back to Yavin 4. After several months of training and actual combat missions against the Empire, Val is promoted to Lieutenant. Val is transferred to Gold Squadron, and Juanita was transferred to Red Squadron. On that day, the 2 celebrated their promotion, and became very drunk. That was the day that the first Death Star entered the Yavin system, intent on destroying the rebels. Due to their drunkenness, Val and Juanita were stood down from active duty by Major Lawra Mers who was serving at Yavin Base at the time. Even after arguing strongly with the Major, both pilots missed the Battle of Yavin. Juanita’s place in Red Squadron is filled by a new rookie pilot named Luke Skywalker who was to be decorated for rescuing Princess Leia Organa. Val's position in Gold Squadron is filled by a senior flight instructor. One that would only do things by the book - and one that would end up getting the entirety of Gold Squadron destroyed. After the event, Juanita blames Val for the loss of some of her best and closest friends in battle and not being there o help them. Soon after the two breaks up, and never see each other again. Val returns to duty as Leader of Gold Squadron, but after one month is removed from the position and placed on light duties due to a morale problem in Gold Squadron linked to his depression. Val is soon assigned to another project at the request of the rescued General Adar Tallon. Val is placed in charge of the H-Wing Project to be commenced in the Fakir Sector as a trial run, and to be run in competition against the B-Wing Starfighter. One year later, the H-wing starfighter prototype is rescued after being stolen by pirates in the Relgim Sector, and is placed on duty at the Fakir Sector Force Fleet. Val is requested to do an extensive evaluation on the fighter. The H-Wing was christened "Juanita" by Val in remembrance of his lost love. |
