Otas Cabal was born nine years before the battle of Yavin to Naomi and Paltus Cabal, both of whom were Jedi's on the run with their older son Stromgald. Naomi realizing that she was pregnant left her husband and son before it began to show and went to her sister Thea's house on Salliche, a farming community planet where Naomi's sister had moved to. It was there at Naomi gave birth and spent the first few days with her newborn son before leaving him with her sister to raise. Otas was given his aunt and uncles last name of Sands and raised by them on their farm where he was home schooled. Otas hung around the local flea market and starport, it was there that he learned about the rest of the universe and about the one thing that consumed his activity imagination: Jedi Knights.
Otas picked up a illegal holovid from the flea market about Jedi's and that just added to the fuel. Wanting to put in his application for the academy Otas and his uncle had many fights over the matter before Otas snuck off to the local starport and jumped ship to escape the boredom of his home planet. Otis ended up at the Wheel space station where he was quickly embroiled in a major ruckus mere moments after he got off the ship he jumped onto. Tak fell in with the members of the Mutt Squad when they had to leave the space station in a hurry due to the trouble and it was then that Otas got his first taste of adventure when the group had to shoot their way out of the station.
Not wanting to reveal his real name Otas settled on the name Tak and kept an air of mystery about himself, falling in with J.S. Boggins as he attempted to talk the older Jedi Knight into taking him as his Padawan. Boggins was reluctant to do that and remembering his teaching at the hands of Master Ulric Boggins slowly began to teach the young Tak about being a Jedi. It started with physical training but Boggins quickly found out that Tak lacked patience when it came to his training. The young man went to extreme lengths to speed up the training and at one point even attempted to steal not one but two lightsabres. This caused a falling out and the two parted company an it was shortly there after that Tak meet and befriended Stromgald Cabal, an ambassador to the new republic and unknown to either of them, his brother. Stromgald offered to train him and began to do just that thinking that he could do a better job then Boggins could. Master Ulric approached Boggins and told him that Tak must not be taught by Stromgald, but didn't offer a reason why. Boggins attempted to talk to Tak but got no where with him before the two of them were lost along with the rest of the Mutt Squad when the Centennial Hawk attempted to jump to lightspeed and hit an unstable wormhole.
It took the crew of the Hawk almost a year to get back to normal space, in that time Tak had begun to train with Boggins and once he was reunited with Stromgald the trouble began. Stromgald was not at all happy with the fact that Tak was taught by Boggins and it caused a major falling out between them and with Boggins as well. They all parted company and it would be while Boggins was helping to establish the Jedi Academy on Tatoonine that Tak meet Master Ulric and it was he that told Tak that he both knew his parents and that the force was strong in his family. Tak corrected him by telling him that other then his aunt and uncle he had no family and Ulric simply asked him if he was so sure of that. Tak returned to his home planet with the Mutt Squad and it was here that he found out that in fact Stromgald was his brother, before his aunt gave him his mothers Lightsabre that they had kept hidden since Tak was left with them years before.
Armed with this knowledge Tak attempted to seek out his brother only to find that Stromgald has slipped to the darkside, Boggins completed his training and the two of them attempted to find the missing Stromgald. When they located him it took Tak confronting Stromgald with the truth to make him return to the light. Tak continued to adventure with the Mutt Squad up until Boggins, Shubquix and he confronted a Sith Master named Darth Valious. It was during this confrontation that Tak was gripped with fear and when given the option of striking down Boggins or dying, Tak turned and attempted to strike down his master. Boggins managed to save both himself and Shubquix but lost Tak to the Darkside of the Force.
Tak changed his name to Darth Bane, never knowing the significance of the name, and studied under his new master. Tak disappeared for eight years and it would take his Nephew to bring him out of hiding, Kae' turned out to be the one that was foretold to destroy the Sith and when news reached Darth Bane he and the other Sith lords spoke about the matter. It was during a confrontation with Kae' on Thermyscira-II that Darth Bane Killed Kae' causing him to enter the force and himself was killed as well. Kae' returned from the Force healed and in keeping with Jedi Teaching Kae' built a pyre for his uncle and burnt the body.
